Our Interior Prep Packages
A great paint job starts before the first coat of paint goes on.​ Not every home—or every homeowner—needs the same amount of surface preparation. Some walls simply need a fresh coat of paint, while others need more attention to dents, cracks, previous repairs, or years of wear.​At U Pro Painting & Upgrades, we use four Surface Preparation Levels to clearly define the amount of preparation included in your project. This helps us recommend the right approach for your home, price your project appropriately, and make sure you know exactly what to expect from the finished result.

Not Sure Which Level You Need?
You don’t have to figure it out yourself.
During your estimate, we’ll evaluate the existing condition of your surfaces, talk with you about how important the finished wall appearance is to you, and recommend the preparation level that makes sense for your project and budget.
Every U Pro project receives professional workmanship. Our preparation levels don’t represent different levels of painting quality—they define how much correction of the existing surface is included before we paint.
1
LLevel 1 — Refreshed
For walls that are already in good condition and simply need a fresh start.
Refreshed preparation includes a light manual sanding of the walls and filling existing nail and small fastener holes before painting.
This level is focused on preparing an existing surface for a professional repaint rather than correcting pre-existing dents, cracks, waves, previous repairs, or other cosmetic imperfections.
A good fit for: Newer or well-maintained walls, color changes, rental turnovers, or homeowners who are happy with the existing condition of their walls and primarily want a fresh coat of paint.

Level 2 — Renewed
A little more love for walls that have lived a little.
Renewed preparation includes mechanical sanding with our professional dust-extraction sanding system, filling nail and fastener holes, repairing localized larger holes, and addressing small, isolated cracks encountered during preparation.
This level provides more surface correction than a straightforward repaint, but does not include searching for and correcting every dent, wave, previous repair, or cosmetic irregularity throughout the room.
A good fit for: Most lived-in homes with everyday wear and tear where the homeowner wants additional preparation without the extensive labor of detailed surface refinement.

Level 3 — Refined
For homeowners who really care about the prep.
Refined preparation is our high-detail option. In addition to mechanical dust-extraction sanding, our team deliberately inspects the included surfaces for visible localized imperfections and repairs dents, dings, holes, gouges, nail pops, localized cracks, and repair deficiencies that can reasonably be corrected without resurfacing the entire wall.
This is the level for the client who knows that the finished paint job is only as good as the surface underneath it and is willing to invest in the additional preparation time.
Refined preparation does not include full-wall skim coating or extensive wall reconstruction.
A good fit for: Higher-end finishes, more critical lighting conditions, deeper colors or higher sheens, feature rooms, and homeowners who place a high priority on the finished appearance of their walls.

Level 4 — Refurbished
When the walls need more than paint—they need rehabilitation.
Some surfaces have simply been through it.
Older plaster, extensive cracking, layers of poor previous repairs, substantial drywall damage, widespread surface irregularities, wallpaper damage, or heavily abused walls may require a completely different approach before they’re ready for paint.
Refurbished preparation is individually evaluated and may include extensive crack repair, drywall or plaster repair or replacement, partial or full skim coating, resurfacing, extensive sanding, or other restorative work.
Because every damaged surface is different, Refurbished projects are individually scoped and priced.
A good fit for: Older or heavily damaged homes, extensive previous repairs, significant cracking, damaged drywall or plaster, and walls requiring resurfacing or restoration.
